DESCRIPTION
The city of Havana, like most of Cuba, is filled with old American cars from the 50’s, crumbling buildings, and surprises down every street. For me, this photo summarizes a lot of what we saw in Cuba during our two week trip to the country.
Even though this photo looks somewhat peaceful with the warm rising sun and the quiet streets, it was actually taken on the morning that Hilary and I were leaving Havana and we were on our way to the bus station early in the morning. We each had a big backpack on and small backpacks strapped around our fronts. We thought that we were going to be late catching our bus so we were in a hurry, but I was able to stop quickly to get a few photos along the way. It turns out that busses in Cuba are never on time anyways, so our rushing was completely unnecessary.
Lots of people say that you’re never supposed to take a photo directly into the sun, but it’s fun to break the rules and in this case I think it adds a certain effect to the picture. There’s a bit of lens flare from the direct sun, but I don’t get too picky about things like that!
