DESCRIPTION
The Karanghake Gorge just North of Rotorua on New Zealand’s North Island is famous for its mining history. You can walk along different paths in the gorge and see the old mining tunnels and buildings. One of the tunnels is 1 km long and goes straight through the corner of a mountain.
I took this photo in the tunnel as Hilary put on the headlamp and walked towards me from the distance giving it a wierd light trail effect. Taking photos in dark places like this with long exposures is generally a bit more challenging than other photos and I’m always really excited when one turns out and looks as cool as you remember it like this one did.
