DESCRIPTION


 

New Zealand blew me away with the colour of the water in the lakes and rivers! I guess it’s because a lot of it is glacier fed, so there are a bunch of sediments and minerals in the water that make it that vibrant blue colour. If you didn’t notice, I put an “I guess” at the beginning of the last sentence because in general I have no idea what I’m talking about. Because of that I like to make lots of non-commital and wishy-washy statements so that I can get away with saying things even though I really have no clue.

I this case, we were driving back from our very last loop around the south island of New Zealand (we actually sold our beloved van Ernie a few hours after taking this photo) when we passed lake Ruataniwha, just outside of Twizel. It was looking particularly vibrant blue in the middle of a hot summer day so we pulled off the road to have a look. I flew my quadcopter over the lake and found a little island that looked cool from above. If we had a bit more time I think it would have been awesome to swim out to the island.
