DESCRIPTION

Of course, when you think of Switzerland, your imagination probably wanders to things like mountains, chocolate, cheese and gondolas. And, while this photo doesn’t have any cheese or chocolates, it at least has mountains and gondolas.

The mountain is called Mount Pilatus and is near the town of Lucerne, which is close to the centre of Switzerland. The journey to get to the top of the mountain involves taking a cog-wheel train to the top and a gondola and cable car back to the bottom on the opposite side of the mountain.

When we spent the day at Mount Pilatus, we took the cog-wheel train to the top of the mountain and then walked around a bunch of the hiking trails to explore more of the area. If you look closely at the top of the photo, you can see a building near the peak of the mountain. This is where the cog-wheel train drops you off, and where the cable car departs to take you to the bottom. You can also see an antenna of some sort from a military base that is built within part of the mountain. That’s right, that’s just how the Swiss do their thing.

You can also see a small church in a saddle towards the top left-hand side of the photo. We ended up hiking from from where we took this photo, down to the church, and up the agonizing switch-backs that you can see going back up to the peak. It was such an awesome day, and to see more of our Switzerland adventure, make sure to check out the Switzerland trip report!
