DESCRIPTION
It’s not everyday that you get to stand on the rim of a volcano, and even though this one is small and dormant, it was still a very cool feeling. As far as I know, it’s the first volcano that I’ve ever actually hiked to the top of as well.
We had been driving south along highway 55 and the landscape changed quite suddenly into a massive lava field. We were looking for a break to get out of the vehicle, so pulled over and saw a small trail heading away from the road towards the cone of a volcano in the distance. We decided to start down the trail and a little while later we found ourselves on top of the volcano looking down inside of it. On the left side, you can see the tiny figure of Ryan walking along the rim.
For this photo, I wasn’t able to capture the entire width of the volcano in one shot, so I locked my settings by putting my camera into manual mode, turned my camera sideways and took 4 or 5 photos. I then stitched these shots together in photoshop later, and the rest is history.
