DESCRIPTION

I took this shot when I was driving from Calgary and exploring some back roads looking for abandoned farm buildings. This was just off one of the highways that I drive quite a bit and when I came over the hill and saw the patterns in the fields I pulled over to have a look. I waited a little while for a vehicle to head down the road and when one finally did I took this shot. The roads in this area seem to have an excessive amount of gravel so when you’re driving you feel like you’re in some sort of rally race and sliding around, going really fast when really, you’re not. Because of this though, the roads are really dusty and I think it makes it look like the vehicle in this picture is going faster than it was. The lesson I learned this day is that it sometimes pays to get off the road you always travel to check out new things or see new areas. It seems very easy to thoughtlessly travel the same comfortable route repeatedly but you can never be rewarded with the sense of discovery that sometimes comes when you venture off the beaten path. I’m not sure if that was supposed to be a literal or a metaphorical lesson but either way I think it rings true.
