The Fix 14: Purple Skies Over the Rippon Winery
Focus of Episode: Using the Clone Stamp Tool in Photoshop
In this episode of The FIX, I show you the editing behind a shot that was posted as Photo of the Week on August 27th, called Purple Skies at Rippon Winery. I took the photo in the summer of 2017 while I was living in New Zealand for a year.
I woke up early one morning to head out to Rippon as I knew that the view across the lake from the top of the vineyard would be a good one. I was quite lucky with the morning and just before the sun rose above the horizon, the sky took on a purple colour for a short few minutes.
The editing in this photo starts in Lightroom where we use white balance and tint to bring out the colours of the purple sky. After doing a basic edit in Lightroom, I then move the photo into Photoshop using the “Edit in Photoshop” option from Lightroom. The main objective of using photoshop is to eliminate a section of power-lines that cross the entire bottom section of the photo. There isn’t an easy way to do this, so instead we have to do it completely manually using the clone stamp tool. By following the lines of the vineyard, however, I’m able to quickly get rid of the power-lines.
